Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach is operated by the Park District under a cooperative agreement with the State of California and City of Alameda.
In 2019, the Park District purchased a building next to their headquarters at 2955 Peralta Oaks Court to house its Public Safety Division and administrative staff. The building will provide space for police, fire, and administrative staff. The Park District is developing internal renovation plans for the building with work expected to begin in 2024.

John Mercurio was elected to the Board of Directors in November 2022. Previously, he served on the Park District’s Park Advisory Committee for 17 years. An avid park user, he has volunteered for over 35 years to preserve open spaces and improve trail access.
Director Mercurio served as a Concord Planning Commissioner for 11 years and as a Concord Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commissioner for 12 years. Appointed by Governor Gray Davis, he served on the California Recreational Trails Committee for 12 years.
Director Mercurio has a BA in Social Science, a California Teaching Credential and an MPA. He is married, with two children. He proudly supports Save Mount Diablo and is a member of the Regional Parks Foundation.
Ellen Corbett was elected to the Board of Directors in November 2016. She is the Board member representing Ward 4. Previously, she was the majority leader of the California State Senate, representing the 10th District. Director Corbett was first elected to the state Senate in 2006 and reelected in 2010. She was a member of the California State Assembly (1998 – 2004), a San Leandro City Council Member and Mayor of San Leandro. She has worked as an attorney, community college professor, and civic activist.
