Red Flag Warning Issued 10/10/21 – 10/12/21

October 10, 2021

(Updated August 8, 2024)

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for East Bay hills from 11 PM Sunday, October 10 to 3 PM Tuesday, October 12 due to high winds and dry conditions. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly.

Follow all fire safety rules and report any fire dangers immediately (EMERGENCIES: 9-1-1 / NON-EMERGENCY: 510-881-1833).

RED FLAG FIRE SAFETY RULES INCLUDE:

  • NO open fires of any kind are allowed. ONLY gas-fueled stoves/barbecues are permitted.
  • NO Smoking in Regional Parks, including vaping devices.
  • NO gas-powered generators.
  • Do not drive or park your vehicle on dry grass areas. The heat from a vehicle’s undercarriage exhaust system can ignite fires. Low-hanging chains that drag and create sparks can do the same.

POTENTIAL PARK CLOSURES:
In extremely dry and windy weather, access to Regional Parks may be restricted, activities may be curtailed, or parks may be closed entirely, by order of the Park District’s Fire Chief to ensure public safety.
