Park Happenings for August

August 2, 2024

Heat Safety During Hot August Days. It seems like this year's hot weather will never let up! Now more than ever, it's important to be prepared for the heat when spending time outdoors. We encourage park visitors to have fun and be safe in the parks.

To be prepared so you can enjoy spending the hot August days in your Regional Parks, keep these heat safety tips in mind:
•    Avoid going out in the hottest part of the day. If you do visit the parks, go in the morning or early evening when it is cooler.
•    Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
•    Don’t forget extra water for your pets!
•    Wear sunscreen and lightweight, light-colored clothing.
•    Minimize consumption of things that can worsen the heat's effects on your body, such as alcohol and caffeine.

To beat the August heat, consider visiting Regional Parks with cool weather and shady trails, which offer an escape on hot summer days. For cooler options, visit our Shady Hikes and Cooler Parks webpage.
