Park District Fire Department Conducting Prescribed Burns/Training June 25 and June 28 at Point Pinole
The East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD FIRE DEPT) will be conducting “Point Pinole” prescribed burns on June 25 and 28, pending favorable weather conditions and approval from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD).
Additionally, the burn will be a multi-agency training opportunity with cooperatives from the East Bay Regional Park District, Alameda County Fire Department, Richmond Fire, Berkeley Fire Department, and the Piedmont Fire Department.
The burn project is in Point Pinole Regional Park. Smoke may be visible from Richmond and the San Rafael Bay.
The East Bay Regional Park District Fire Department has been conducting prescribed burns for several years. Prescribed burning has many benefits for public and natural resources. Benefits include increased biodiversity, control of noxious weeds, enhanced wildlife habitat, and protection against large damaging wildland fires. All prescribed burn projects are conducted under specific weather and fuel conditions to minimize any negative impacts.
During the current conditions we take advantage of good weather and high fuel moistures to manage the fire load in the area EBRPD FIRE DEPT protects. Minimal water use and ‘dry mop” techniques will be utilized during the event. By removing high fuel loads with burning, we will not only remove fire hazards but also increase the restoration of grasslands.
