The Park District and project partners open an all-new outdoor Fitness Zone at Lake Chabot Regional Park with a ceremony set for Saturday, November 9, 10:30 a.m. to noon at Lake Chabot Regional Park, 17600 Lake Chabot Road in Castro Valley.

“We are proud to promote community wellness by providing this fun and engaging area,” said Board Member Carol Severin of Castro Valley. “It has been my long-term vision to establish an Outdoor Fitness Zone with exercise machines that require you to interact with other park users,” she said.

The six exercise stations accommodate up to 12 people at a time. The rain gardens surrounding the Fitness Zone absorb water runoff, keeping the lake clean and healthy. Native plants provide a valuable habitat for birds, butterflies, and beneficial insects.

The $20,000 project was funded by Kaiser Permanente with design and labor provided by East Bay Regional Park District staff.

The East Bay Regional Park District is a system of beautiful public parks and trails in Alameda and Contra Costa counties east of San Francisco Bay. The system comprises 114,000+ acres in 65 parks including over 1,200 miles of trails for hiking, biking, horseback riding and nature learning.
