On September 25, 1988, a wheelchair-accessible fishing pier at Lake Temescal was opened to the public. The pier was dedicated in memory of Robert Clinton Lee, son of Dr. and Mrs. Clinton and Mary Lee of Oakland. The Lees, including daughters Valerie Lee and Robbin Lee, were instrumental in fund-raising efforts for the pier. Funds were raised partly through a benefit buffet-dinner dance attended by over 340 people throughout the Bay Area. The event was supported by the Regional Parks Foundation, the Black Tie Fishing Committee, family, and friends of the Lees. More than $25,000 was raised by the Lee family towards construction of the pier. See news articles.
Dr. Lee was a board member on the Regional Parks Foundation's Board of Directors. The family also launched the popular Park District Fishing Derby for children with special needs and disabilities at Lake Temescal, Shadow Cliffs, and Contra Loma.
35th Anniversary
On May 7, 2023, Board Members and staff from the East Bay Regional Park District joined the Lee family to celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the accessible fishing pier at Lake Temescal.
