For 80 years, we have been connecting parks to people by preserving open space and offering enjoyable and healthful recreational activities.
Throughout history Black Americans have fought for this country, serving us all even while facing discrimination and racism. At Thurgood Marshall Regional Park: Home of the Port Chicago 50, we have the opportunity to share some of these stories.
Many years have passed since the catastrophic Oakland Firestorm raged through the hills in October 1991, but for the East Bay Regional Park District staff members who fought it, the memories are still vivid.
