Overview
The North Basin Strip is the portion of the McLaughlin Eastshore State Park located south of the Gilman Sports Fields in Berkeley. It is approximately 20 acres and includes 2,800 linear feet of shoreline. The Park District is embarking on a planning project to develop a preliminary design to improve this portion of the park that will include several opportunities for public engagement.
Project Goals
Habitat and Public Access. Improve habitat and develop public access facilities, consistent with the Eastshore State Park General Plan.
Climate Resiliency. Design for climate resiliency.
Green Infrastructure. Use nature-based design solutions where appropriate.
Actionable. Ensure improvements are within operational and budgetary constraints of the Park District.
Complete the survey by December 31, 2024 for chance to win a Regional Parks Foundation Membership. The survey will close on January 15, 2025.

Past Activities
August to October 2024 - New Voices Partnership. The New Voices Partnership is an opportunity for community-based organizations and individuals to build capacity and advance their missions by helping to design North Basin Strip to serve our communities’ needs for healthy and accessible outdoor spaces. The New Voices Partnership began with a series of three capacity-building training workshops that culminated in a presentation to the District.
