Farmyards and fields of the early 1900s held various domestic animals including cows, goats, sheep, and pigs.
Livestock provided many resources on a farm – such as milk, wool, meat, and manure to fertilize the soil. Animals were bred to ensure a farm’s continued success in providing these resources, and farmers were additionally busy during the birthing season. Tending to animals took many forms, with entire families becoming involved in different aspects of their care.
