Seasonal Campground Closure

Anthony Chabot Family Campground and Group Campsites are closed for the season starting November 1, 2024. The campgrounds will be re-open on April 1, 2025.

Trail Closures

Due to previous winter storm damage, the Park is not accessible via Redwood Rd from I-580 westbound in Castro Valley. Access via Redwood Rd from Skyline Blvd.
Trails Closed:

  • Brandon Trail Stone Bridge to Horseshoe Trail - trail impassable due to a failed culvert
  • Redtail Spur Trail
  • Willowview Trail

Camping and a wealth of other outdoor activities are available only 20 minutes from downtown Oakland at the 3,304-acre Anthony Chabot Regional Park. A beautiful, public campground and 70 miles of hiking and riding trails make Anthony Chabot one of the District's most varied parklands.

Hiking, Riding and Bicycle Trails

Visitors can explore miles of beautiful hiking, riding, and bicycling trails through grasslands, chaparral, and shady eucalyptus groves, or along the shores of Lake Chabot. The East Bay Skyline National Trail, which traverses 31 miles of East Bay hills from Richmond to Castro Valley, runs the length of the park. Anthony Chabot is connected to Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area by a six-mile section of the Chabot-to-Garin Regional Trail (an EBMUD hiking permit is required).

Family Campground

Anthony Chabot Family Campground, overlooking Lake Chabot, is a getaway located only 35 minutes from downtown Oakland and Oakland International Airport. The campground features 53 drive-to tent campsites, 10 walk-to tent campsites, and 12 RV/trailer campsites with full hookups (sewer, water, and 30 amp electrical). All sites have a picnic table and fire ring with grill. Restrooms include hot showers. Firewood and charcoal are available for purchase. The campground provides access to miles of hiking and mountain biking trails, along with fishing at nearby Lake Chabot.

Note that the campground entry gates are locked every night at 10pm. No entry is possible after 10pm until the gates re-open at 8am the next morning. Campers may exit the campground at any time.

For reservations, call 1-888-EBPARKS (1-888-327-2757), option 2, up to 12 weeks in advance, or Book a campsite online. Reservations are recommended year-round.

Group Camping

Anthony Chabot Regional Park features seven group camps ranging in capacity from 35 to 300 campers, reservations required (a minimum of 10 people to use the group campsites). All group camps include picnic tables, BBQ, fire ring, water, and chemical/vault toilets. Equestrian camping is available by reservation at Bort Meadow Group Camp. Marksmanship

The Marksmanship Range is permanently closed.

Equestrian Centers

Chabot Equestrian Center (510-755-2026) and Skyline Ranch Equestrian Center (510-336-0850) offer horse boarding.

Guided trail rides are NOT offered at this time.
