Park Operations Pathway: You like being outdoors and in nature, and are organized. You're a "jack-of-all-trades" and open to learning new skills. You'll learn about how the parks work, and gain new skills and knowledge about taking care of the parks, construction, and other cool things.

Field Intern

What You'll Do

  • Work on various projects, assist with park maintenance, and learn District policies

Requirements

  • Graduated high school, or equivalent 
  • Go to a Community College or Vocational School
  • A valid California driver's license

Can You...

  • Lift and move up to 60 pounds?
  • Communicate well both verbally and in writing?
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships?
  • Interact well with the public?
  • Do basic math, enough to handle fee collection and making change?
  • Follow written and verbal instructions?

Park Ranger II

What You'll Do

  • Park Maintenance, such as weeding, mowing, painting, removing invasive plants, repairing stairs, and minor building repairs
  • Operating and maintaining district vehicles and equipment
  • Customer service tasks such as providing information to visitors, answering phones, and maintaining good relations with neighbors and homeowners' associations
  • Patrol the parks, trails and waterways
  • Protect natural resources and assist with conservation projects,
  • Administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, completing revenue reports, and keeping logs
  • Respond to emergencies and complete incident reports

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience at East Bay Regional Park District as a Park Ranger I OR
  • Three years of recent experience in landscape/park facility maintenance, construction, or a related field and which demonstrates the ability to provide quality customer service
  • Graduated high school, or equivalent 
  • A valid driver's license

Note: One year of relevant, college-level course work, or successful completion of one year of related classes at a trade or vocation school may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience

Park Craft Specialist

What You'll Do

  • Maintain buildings and grounds
  • Construct and repair things such as rock walls and stairs
  • Landscaping and installation, develop shop drawings
  • Prepare contracts
  • Estimate and arrange for equipment, crew members, supplies
  • Supervise crews and volunteers
  • Operate, inspect, and maintain equipment and vehicles
  • Patrol parks, trails, and waterways
  • Help protect natural resources
  • Administrative tasks such as preparing reports and enforcing lease agreements

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience at East Bay Regional Park District as a Park Ranger II OR
  • At least five years of experience in maintenance, construction or similar work environment which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this classification?
  • Graduated high school, or equivalent
  • A valid California driver's license

    Park Supervisor

    What You'll Do

    • Hire and supervise staff
    • Prioritize and monitor work assignments
    • Establish goals, standards, and guidelines
    • Schedule and monitor projects for special crews and volunteers
    • Help with vehicle and equipment maintenance
    • Write reports, letters, and memos
    • Compile statistics and keep logs
    • Develop and prepare budgets
    • Monitor contracts and contract negotiations
    • Purchase equipment, materials, and supplies
    • Protect and enhance the park's natural resources
    • Inspect facilities
    • Respond to emergency situations

    Requirements

    • At least four years of experience at East Bay Regional Park District as a Park Ranger II or a Park Craft Specialist OR
    • At least six years of recent experience in landscape/park facility maintenance, construction, or related field which demonstrates the ability to provide effective supervision and quality customer service
    • A valid California driver's license

    Note: College education in park maintenance, administration or management, resource management, or a related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience on the basis of one full year of college education is equal to six months of experience

    Park Unit Manager

    What You'll Do

    • Supervise a large workforce of park operations staff, volunteers, and contract concessionaires
    • Ensure that policies, programs, and objectives are understood and met
    • Allocate resources to operate and maintain parks and trails
    • Provide direction and oversight
    • Negotiate, manage and monitor contracts and agreements
    • Develop budgets and prepare correspondence
    • Serve as a District representative to internal and external organizations
    • Respond to operation and maintenance emergencies

    Requirements

    • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in park management, environmental science, public administration, or a closely related field
    • At least four years of experience in park operations, with at least two of those years in a supervisory position
    • A valid California driver's license

    Note: A Master's degree in park management, environmental science, public administration, or a closely related field may be accepted as an equivalent to one and a half of the required four years of experience
