Overview
Black Birders week began in 2020 to highlight the historic discrimination in nature-based outdoor recreation activities, like birding. Join us in celebrating Black Birders Week from Sunday, May 26 to Saturday, June 1 with a week-long series of activities aimed at uplifting Black birders and topics of cultural inclusivity in the outdoors. Park District Naturalist staff together with the Park District Black Employee Collective share the joys of birding as a lifelong learning journey and invite everyone to get outside, spend time with community, and learn about the birds of the East Bay in our Regional parks.
Additionally, we are excited to announce that EBRPD is hosting its first Black Birders Week Conference on opening day (May 26) directly following the morning birding event. This special conference aims to connect and inspire communities by highlighting Black people who work in STEM fields and is a great opportunity for networking and showcasing organizations with speakers, tables, and community.

Programs and Activities
