Located in the Temescal Regional Recreation Area, Lake Temescal has an accessible Beach House adjacent to the swim area which offers changing rooms and showers. Swimming is allowed without lifeguards. Swimming is generally prohibited November through March, because of poor water quality. Beach wheelchairs are available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis. See Park Accessibility on the Temescal park page for more information.

Fees and requirements: Group Swim Procedures

Payment by cash (no bills over $20) or check (in the exact amount due) ONLY. No credit cards accepted for payment.

Swim Capacity

Once the swim facility capacity is reached, there will be no new entries allowed for the remainder of the day. Please take this into consideration when you are planning your visit.

Swim Beach Water Quality Program

Lake Temescal Beach is tested for bacterial levels weekly from April to October. The map below indicates the sample sites on the beach. The East Bay Regional Park District works with the Alameda County Environmental Health Department in accordance with California Department of Public Health's Guidance for Fresh Water Beaches to determine water quality at Lake Temescal Beach. Our stop light sign is used to display the relative water quality from our latest bacteriological tests and blue-green algae conditions.
