Hiking

Hiking is one of the most popular activities in the Park District. The District offers many challenging off-road mountain bicycle trails, horseback riding trails, or if you prefer, hike to one of the lakes to enjoy a day of fishing, relaxation, or bird watching.

The Park District has more than 1,150 miles of trails within its parklands which offer year-round enjoyment. In addition, the District has over 250 miles of paved trails linking Regional Parks. These linking trails go through cities and along major streams and channels. Each year the Park District sponsors the "Trails Challenge" program for the adventurous who enjoy exploring new trails by foot, bicycle, horseback, or even in-line skating!
