Trails
Hiking is one of the most popular activities in the Park District. The District offers many challenging off-road mountain bicycle trails and horseback riding trails. You may also hike to one of the District lakes to enjoy a day of fishing, relaxation, or bird watching.
The Park District has more than 1,150 miles of trails within its parklands, which offer year-round enjoyment. In addition, the District has over 250 miles of paved trails linking Regional Parks (see list at right). These trails link schools and colleges, municipal parks, shopping and employment centers, and transportation hubs. To encourage your enjoyment of the trails, each year the Park District sponsors the "Trails Challenge" program for the adventurous who enjoy exploring new parks and trails.
