The grand opening of a new regional sports complex at Gilman Street in Berkeley will be celebrated by elected officials, community leaders, and sports enthusiasts on Saturday, September 6. The state-of-the-art facility is the result of an unprecedented joint effort between the East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) and the five East Bay cities of Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville, and Richmond.
Speakers will include Master of Ceremonies and EBRPD General Manager Pat O’Brien, Assemblymember Loni Hancock (D-East Bay), Albany Mayor Robert Lieber, Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates, El Cerrito Mayor William C. Jones, Emeryville Mayor Ken Bukowski, Richmond Mayor Gayle McLaughlin, a representative from California State Parks, EBRPD Board Member Nancy Skinner, and sports and environmental community leaders.
The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at 400 Gilman Street in Berkeley (west of Frontage Road at the Bay).
