Public Meeting – Serpentine Prairie Restoration at Redwood Regional Park
Where: Oakland – Richard C. Trudeau Center, 11500 Skyline Blvd. at Redwood Regional Park
When: Monday, May 11, 6pm-8pm.
The East Bay Regional Park District has prepared a restoration plan for Redwood Regional Park Serpentine Prairie that will bring back the vitality and botanical diversity of the Serpentine Prairie, including the endangered Presidio clarkia, while continuing to provide for the enjoyment of park users. This restoration work will be multi-phased over a period of 3 to 4 years. The plan includes removal of trees not endemic to prairie habitat, closing a 3-acre severely impacted area for recovery, removal of informal trails and creation of a new loop trail and interpretive overlook. The District will also install informational signage about the restoration efforts and the importance of preserving the prairie. Limited future prescribed burns and sheep grazing may be used as part of a long-term adaptive management program.
The plan describing this resource management actions and the accompanying California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Initial Study document are available for public review.
