UN International Day of Peace

Overview

International Day of Peace 2024
“Finding Peace Within”

Friday, September 27, 2024
5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Lake Chabot Regional Park

In today’s world, with political, environmental, and many other forms of injustice impacting our communities and environments, it can be overwhelming on where to begin when it comes to creating change and peace. The daily wear and tear on our communities, loved ones, and ourselves facing these injustices can be exhausting and extremely detrimental to our well-being. This year’s annual Peace Day with the East Bay Regional Park District is a space for us to be able to come together to center our hearts and the healing we need to tend to our mind, body, and spirits.

When we have access to the resources and communities we need for our wellness we can then begin to create a world that centers justice, love, peace, unity, self-awareness, the environment, and community. Join us for an evening of activities, music and community that will center on wellness!

In 1981, The UN established September 21st to be the International Day of Peace. The UN General Assembly encourages all nations to observe 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire, and to practice kindness and compassion on this day. Since 2018, the Park District has celebrated this day with a community event at Lake Chabot Regional Park.

In September 2021, we installed the Peace Pole at Lake Chabot. In October 2021, the Park District received the Global Citizen Award which recognizes our contributions towards peace and the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In 2023, we received the Award of Distinction for Outstanding Event from the California Association of Recreation and Park Districts (CARPD) for the UN International Day of Peace event.
