Family Camping: Frequently Asked Questions

Family Campgrounds provide a place to enjoy traditional tent camping, RV camping, or camping at hike-in sites.
The East Bay Regional Park District has three parks that offer a variety of family campsites to choose from.

How do I reserve a family campsite?

When can I reserve a family campsite?

Campsites are available for reservation, by phone and on the internet, beginning 12 weeks in advance of the first date you wish to camp. Reservations must be made at least two days (48 hours) in advance. Same-day or first-come, first-served reservations are subject to availability. Reservations are highly recommended for weekends/holidays.

What is the maximum number of consecutive nights I can stay in the family campground?

The maximum number of consecutive nights you can stay in family campsite is 15 nights. After 15 nights, you must vacate the campsite for a minimum of 2 nights, and then can return to camp for another 15 consecutive nights. 30 nights total per year per park.

How many sites can I book for a specific date?

Two family campsites per household address and/or primary occupant. Any additional sites will be cancelled. 8 people maximum are allowed at each site. Site capacity is strictly enforced. NO gathering with other sites will be permitted. Cabins are limited to ONE reservation per household address and/or primary occupant.

What is the cancellation and change policy?

To cancel a reservation OR change a reservation (i.e. changing sites, adding nights, dropping nights, and any date changes) you must call the Reservations Office by 4pm PST at least 2 business days before your ARRIVAL DATE . (Effective as of November 14, 2018)

** The $8 transaction fee paid at the time of booking is non-refundable.
** The cancellation of a reservation or making a change to a reservation will incur an additional $8 transaction fee

What is the cancellation/rescheduling policy for rain/bad weather?

NO REFUNDS for inclement weather (heat, wind, rain, etc). No refunds for stricter fire restrictions or water quality issues. If you purchased optional insurance through Reserve America (Sensible Weather), claims or questions regarding claims must go through them. The Park District is not affiliated with this insurance program.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

All camping reservations begin at 2pm and end at noon the following day. NO EARLY CHECK-IN.

What are the length limits for trailers?

  • Anthony Chabot accommodates up to 35 feet.
  • Del Valle accommodates 35-80 feet, depending on site.
  • Dumbarton accommodates 40-60 feet, depending on site.

Can juveniles reserve campsites?

No, juveniles (under 18) cannot reserve a campsite. If a juvenile is camping, they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian OR be a part of a group permitted to occupy parklands at night and who is supervised by at least one responsible adult over the age of 21 for each ten juveniles.

What are quiet hours? What do I do if I have noisy neighbors?

Quiet hours are 10pm to 7am. CAMPGROUND DISTURBANCES: PLEASE CALL 911 ON THE PARK PAYPHONE OR (510) 881-1121 TO NOTIFY PARK POLICE OF AFTER-HOURS PROBLEMS that need police attention. Other campers will be glad you brought the problem to the attention of the Regional Parks Police.

Are pets allowed?  If so, are there any additional fees?

There is an extra fee for dogs which you must pay at check-in. The dog fee is $2/day per dog. Registered service dogs are free. Maximum 3 dogs per reservation.

Pets must be kept on a leash (max. 6 ft.) while in campgrounds, picnic areas, and other developed areas of the park. In the campgrounds, pets must be confined within camping vehicle or tent during quiet hours; 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Pets must be under control at all times. Persons with noisy, vicious or uncontrolled animals will be required to leave the park and may be cited. Place dog droppings in garbage containers.

How many tents are allowed per site?

Due to the various sizes of tent sites in our family campgrounds, the quantity of tents that will fit on each site may vary.  For example, if your tents are smaller, you may fit more tents than if your tents are much larger.  A maximum of 8 people are allowed at each site.  Tents are not permitted on the lawn area.

How many vehicles are allowed at each site?

There is a maximum of two vehicles allowed at your site. Two vehicles are included in the cost of your reservation. Both vehicles must fit on the parking pad. A vehicle is considered a car, truck, RV, motorhome, or trailer (including boat trailers). Vehicles being towed will be counted as the second vehicle. NO OVERFLOW PARKING IS AVAILABLE AT ANTHONY CHABOT. Limited overflow at Del Valle and Dumbarton Quarry and is not guaranteed depending on availability

Is there a park entrance fee if I have a reserved campsite?

You do not need to pay a separate park entrance fee but additional day use fees may apply. Please review each park page for applicable fees.

Do I receive a discount for being a Regional Parks Foundation Member?

Yes. Regional Parks Foundation Members receive $10 off/night November-March and $5 off/night April-October which is applicable to one campsite only. The member must occupy the site. In order to receive this discount, reservations MUST be made over the phone. Please make sure to notify the Reservations Agent of your membership at the beginning of your call. Reservations made online will not qualify for a discount. Reservations will not be adjusted to reflect a discount once payment is received and a reservation is confirmed.

Are generators allowed in the family campground?

Generators are NOT allowed in any family campground or park per Ordinance 38 regardless of the reason for their use.

Are there any firewood restrictions in the family campground?

To limit the spread of Sudden Oak Death fungus, NO UNPROCESSED/NATURAL FIREWOOD is allowed into the campgrounds. You may bring wood which has been commercially purchased and certified to be uncontaminated, processed fire logs or cut lumber. The Anthony Chabot and Del Valle campground kiosks may have firewood available for purchase. Please call in advance of your trip to confirm. Collection of wood at the park is not permitted.

What is your policy for disabled accessible campsites?

The following campsites are disabled accessible:

  • Anthony Chabot # 06, 61, 62
  • Del Valle # 52, 137
  • Dumbarton Quarry # 02, 03, 04

For advanced reservations at these sites, you must:

  1. Meet accessible site requirement: You must have a California DMV Disabled Person (or Disabled Veteran) Placard or License Plate (or those issued by similar agency of another state) with an identification card matching the name on the placard. Placards and identification cards will be checked when you check into the campsite. If no one occupying the site meets this requirement, the reservation is invalid - you will not be allowed to use the site and no refunds will be given.
  2. Make reservations by phone only (no internet reservations).
  3. Reserve 48 hours in advance.

What happens if I miss my first night of camping?

If you are going to miss the first night of camping but you do intend to camp at the park, please call the park staff and let them know when you expect to arrive. If you do not arrive at the park for your first night of camping and do not call by 10am on the morning of your second day to inform park staff of your arrival, your camp site will be given away.
